The Art Galleries at Austin Community College, in collaboration with Texas Sculpture Group, is pleased to bring Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group to Gallery 2000 at ACC Highland Campus. Juried by Lana Meador, Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art, this exhibition includes artworks from over twenty Texas Sculpture Group members and highlights an array of traditional and modern techniques in sculpture. 

The exhibition will be on view January 16-March 7, 2024 at The Art Galleries (TAG) on the Highland Campus of Austin Community College, located at 6101 Highland Campus Drive, Austin, TX 78752

Please join us for the OPENING RECEPTION on Saturday, February 17, from 6pm to 8pm in Gallery 2000, campus location HLC 2.2450 (click HERE for directions and please RSVP here.) This event is free and open to the public, enhanced by live music by ACC Music Students. There will also be a series of gallery talks throughout February and March featuring TSG Artist Members on a variety of topics (see list below or click HERE for more information).

ABOUT OUR JUROR: Lana Meador is the Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin and master’s degree in Art History from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where she concentrated on contemporary art. Prior to her position at the San Antonio Museum of Art, Ms. Meador held the Semmes Foundation Internship in Museum Studies at the McNay Art Museum (San Antonio, TX) and contributed to the e-publications French & Michigan and …might be good. At SAMA, Ms. Meador was co-curator of the exhibitions Of Country and Culture: The Lam Collection of Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art (2017) and Intercambios: Modernist Photography in Mexico from the Permanent Collection (2017); curator of Marilyn Lanfear: Material Memory (2018); and co-curator of Capturing the Moment: Photographs from the Marie Brenner and Ernest Pomerantz Collection (2019) and Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art (2020).

Artists Yousif Del Valle (faculty, ACC) and Hollis Hammonds (faculty, St. Edwards University) will give tandem artists talks in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450). Both Del Valle and Hammonds focus on social and political themes through their artworks, which are included in the exhibition.

TSG Artist Talks: Art + Scale
February 22, 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) at ACC Highland Campus
Artists Matthew Isaacson (faculty, ACC) and Valérie Chaussonnet will give tandem artists talks in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) in conjunction with Material Evolution: Selected Works from Texas Sculpture Group. Isaacson and Chaussonnet will focus on their use of scale in their works, which utilize ceramic and metal materials.

TSG Artist Talks: Art + Gender
February 28, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) at ACC Highland Campus
Artists Sarah Hirneisen (faculty, Texas State University) and Erin Cunningham (faculty, University of Texas at Austin) will give tandem artists talks in Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450). Both Hirneisen and Cunningham focus on gender roles and expectations through their artworks, which are included in the spring exhibition Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group.

Texas Women in Art: Curator Talk with Lana Meador
March 5, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) at ACC Highland Campus
The Art Galleries at ACC will host a hybrid talk with Lana Meador, Associate Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at the San Antonio Museum of Art, who will dive into her recent research into Texas women in the arts.

TSG Members at Artspace 111 in Ft. Worth

Artspace111 and the Texas Sculpture Group continue their outdoor sculpture collaboration in the Katie F. Wright Sculpture Garden, attached to the historic Fort Worth gallery. The show opened in conjunction with the Fort Worth Art Dealer’s Association Fall Gallery Night on September 10th, 2022 and continues through the summer of 2023. This collaboration brings Contemporary Sculpture to Fort Worth in an environment that is inclusive, serene, and accessible. Artspace111 is honored to present sculptures from 4 Texas Sculpture Group Artists: Roger Colombik, Danville Chadbourne, Braydon Gold, and Kevin Stanford.

The Katie F. Wright Sculpture Garden is located near Downtown Fort Worth attached to Artspace111 and is open Tuesday-Friday from 11am-5pm and Saturdays 11-2pm.
